We return to the beginning of Lacan’s use of topology and how he uses it to get out of the impasses of two dimensional thinking or the cul de sacs of imaginary and symbolic as fields of representation.

He returns to Freud’s theory of identification and finds within it the indication of a beyond to the field of the imaginary and symbolic other:

“I am going to put the accent on what it is in identification that posits itself directly as making identical, as being founded on the notion of “the same” and even of the same as the same…” (2022, 3)

From this generative trait we will see how Lacan builds a critique of the limits of philosophies of self and inserts his conception of the dependence of the formation of a subject on the effects of the signifier as such…
